Physiotherapy is the treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a patient’s mobility, function, and well-being. Physiotherapists study the science of movement, learning how to pinpoint an injury’s root causes and help you through physical rehabilitation and injury prevention. Physiotherapists get you involved in your recovery. Think about getting physiotherapy if you have an injury or chronic pain that affects how you function every day.

Pelvic health physiotherapy also called pelvic floor physiotherapy is therapy to address the pain and function related to issues originating from or involving the pelvic area. The pelvic area is the lower part of the trunk of the human body between the abdomen and the legs. If you think of the pelvis as being the home to organs like the bladder, rectum, and uterus (or prostate in men), the pelvic floor muscles are the home’s foundation.

Pelvic floor dysfunction is diagnosed by specially trained doctors and physiotherapists by using external and internal “hands-on” or manual techniques to evaluate the function of the pelvic floor muscles.

Owen Sound Balance Clinic is a division of Physio Care Owen Sound, a local Owen Sound clinic with a special interest in the rehabilitation of patients dealing with mobility issues. Mobility is an important part of having a good quality of life. We at Owen Sound Balance Clinic want to work with you or your loved ones to help ensure that you are able to participate in your day-to-day functional and recreational activities independently or with minimal assistance, and we take a two-pronged approach to accomplish that.

First, we will assess you to determine your current level of strength and balance and recommend an appropriate mobility aid. If you need a walker or a wheelchair, you may be eligible for up to 75% of the funding coming from the government of Ontario towards the purchase of your mobility device. We will complete the application form and forward it to a vendor of your choice to get the equipment.

Second, we will simultaneously start a structured exercise program with a focus on improving your strength, agility, balance, and reaction time to decrease the dependence on a mobility aid. We will design a custom exercise program specific to your level of strength and balance and work with you 1-on-1 over a 6-12 weeks period. You will attend the clinic once a week and work with our kinesiologist for a 45 minutes session. We will also give you a home exercise program to practice at home.

We will re-assess you at appropriate intervals with objective measures to determine your progress. With our knowledge and expertise in the prescription and use of mobility aids and exercises to improve strength, agility, and balance; we expect that by the end of the program you or your loved one would be able to participate in their functional and recreational activities independently or with minimal assistance.

Occupational Therapy

Special Interest: Chronic pain management, Pre and Post-surgical physiotherapy, musculoskeletal injuries - Shoulder injuries, neck pain, back pain, hip and knee pain, ankle injuries.

Hi, my name is Magesh and I am a Physiotherapist at Physio Care Owen Sound.

I have completed ongoing professional education in various manual therapy techniques including the Level 1 and Level 2 courses in Fascial Manipulation (TM) in Canada, which has been an important addition to my clinical expertise. Fascial Manipulation (TM) is a manual therapy method where the foundation is in assessing the body as a whole and not just “where it hurts” or where the problems appear to be.

I use a combination of manual therapy techniques, acupuncture/dry needling, specific customized exercises program and education/ergonomic advises to address the pain and dysfunction of various spinal and peripheral disorders to reduce pain, improve movement, and restore individuals back into their functional activities.

I identify my interest aligning well with a clinic-based work setting, where I feel that I am able to see my clients getting better and fully integrating back into their work and things that they enjoy.

When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading books, and exploring the beautiful outdoors of Owen Sound with my wife. I look forward to meeting and working with people within the scope of physiotherapy to help them realize and achieve their goals.
