Physiotherapy is the treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a patient’s mobility, function, and well-being. Physiotherapists study the science of movement, learning how to pinpoint an injury’s root causes and help you through physical rehabilitation and injury prevention. Physiotherapists get you involved in your recovery. Think about getting physiotherapy if you have an injury or chronic pain that affects how you function every day.
Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
Pelvic health physiotherapy, also known as pelvic floor physiotherapy, is a specialized area of physiotherapy focused on assessing and treating conditions related to the pelvic region. This approach addresses both pain and functional impairments arising from the pelvic floor muscles, surrounding joints, and related systems.
Common conditions treated include:
Pre- and postnatal pain, weakness, discomfort, and functional concerns
Birthing injuries, including perineal tears
Pelvic organ prolapse
Urinary and fecal incontinence
Pelvic pain, including pain while sitting, pain with intercourse, low back or hip pain, and sciatica-like symptoms
Interstitial cystitis (IC) or female bladder pain syndrome
Overactive bladder
Pelvic discomfort related to perimenopause, menopause, or gynecological surgeries (including bladder lift, hysterectomy, or cancer treatment)
Endometriosis-related pelvic dysfunction
Assessment and treatment are conducted by physiotherapists with advanced training in pelvic floor rehabilitation. Evaluation typically includes both external and internal manual techniques to accurately assess the strength, coordination, and function of the pelvic floor muscles.
Pelvic health physiotherapy provides a supportive, individualized approach to restore confidence, comfort, and quality of life through evidence-based treatment strategies.
Breast Cancer Rehab Physiotherapy
Functional rehabilitation after breast cancer surgery is an important aspect of the overall recovery process. Breast cancer surgery, including mastectomy or lumpectomy, can result in physical limitations and discomfort that may affect daily activities, such as dressing, bathing, and reaching overhead. Functional rehabilitation aims to improve mobility, strength, and function after surgery.
Lymphedema Management Physiotherapy
Lymphedema treatment often called Combined Decongestive Therapy or CDT is offered by our Certified Lymphedema Therapist. Lymphedema Therapy involves Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), multilayer compression, exercises, skin care, and education regarding self-management.
Lymphedema is chronic swelling and accumulation of protein-rich fluid in superficial tissues most commonly seen after lymph nodes are removed or affected during cancer-related surgeries and radiation. It can also be caused due to other problems like venous insufficiency, lipedema, obesity, chronic wounds, etc.
The first assessment involves an in-depth interview regarding your condition, physical assessment, limb circumference measurement. If time permits, one or more components of treatment will be included in the first assessment.

Owen Sound Balance Clinic
Owen Sound Balance Clinic is a division of Physio Care Owen Sound, a local Owen Sound clinic with a special interest in the rehabilitation of patients dealing with mobility issues. Mobility is an important part of having a good quality of life. We at Owen Sound Balance Clinic want to work with you or your loved ones to help ensure that you are able to participate in your day-to-day functional and recreational activities independently or with minimal assistance, and we take a two-pronged approach to accomplish that.
First, we will assess you to determine your current level of strength and balance and recommend an appropriate mobility aid. If you need a walker or a wheelchair, you may be eligible for up to 75% of the funding coming from the government of Ontario towards the purchase of your mobility device. We will complete the application form and forward it to a vendor of your choice to get the equipment.
Second, we will simultaneously start a structured exercise program with a focus on improving your strength, agility, balance, and reaction time to decrease the dependence on a mobility aid. We will design a custom exercise program specific to your level of strength and balance and work with you 1-on-1 over a 6-12 weeks period. You will attend the clinic once a week and work with our kinesiologist for a 45 minutes session. We will also give you a home exercise program to practice at home.
We will re-assess you at appropriate intervals with objective measures to determine your progress. With our knowledge and expertise in the prescription and use of mobility aids and exercises to improve strength, agility, and balance; we expect that by the end of the program you or your loved one would be able to participate in their functional and recreational activities independently or with minimal assistance.
